Doug's Geology Journal PREVIEW
In the new five-part series DOUG'S GEOLOGY JOURNAL, field geologist and host Doug Prose helps make sense of complicated geologic stories. By sharing his observations in places as diverse as Iceland and Death Valley, Doug explains big-picture geologic processes that shape the landscape. Throughout the series, he shares his observations as he treks over desert terrain, climbs hills, squeezes between rocks, and contemplates geological features while sitting in a hot spring. He visits the volcanoes of Iceland; the red rock country of Utah and Arizona; the jagged trace of California's San Andreas Fault; the valleys and mountains of Nevada; and the complicated terrain of Sicily. This series is sure to inspire interest in not only the geology around us, but the amazing stories that are shaped by ...

Geologic Research and Publishing Papers as a PhD Student
Yo, I am Caden Howlett, a second-year PhD student studying geoscience at the University of Arizona. In this video, I describe my most recent peer-reviewed publication and, more generally, how field-based geologic research is conducted as a graduate student. Hopefully it will provide some tips on how to succeed as a PhD student.

Making geology a sexy subject is serious business! Zentner has devoted three decades to reaching an ever-increasing audience of all ages, who want to connect to the geology upon which they live. Making geology a sexy subject is serious business! Zentner has devoted three decades to reaching an ever-increasing audience of all ages, who want to connect to the geology upon which they live. Delving into his evolving teaching style in the Internet era, for a subject matter that has become the purview of specialists, he details his role as a educator who paints big pictures. Nick has been with CWU Geology since 1992. He teaches a popular "GEOL 101 - Geology of Washington" course to CWU students every Fall Quarter and Winter Quarter - and his course is open to townspeople for free! He also teaches "GEOL 351 - Pacific Northwest Geology" every spring.
Nick's outreach to the public includes a popular Ellensburg evening lecture series "Downtown Geology Lectures", a PBS TV series "Nick On The Rocks", and he leads the Ellensburg Chapter of the Ice Age Flood Institute.
In 2015, Nick received the prestigious James Shea Award, a national award recognizing exceptional delivery of Earth Science content to the general public. Past Shea Award recipients include John McPhee, Jack Horner, Robert Ballard, and Stephen Jay Gould.
Nick's wife, Liz Zentner, teaches science at Ellensburg High School. The Zentners have three boys - Max (26), Sam (24), and Jack (22) This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
